Jordan Young & Faith Tabernacle: Preacher, Singer, Musician And Child Sex Offender

This article a collaborative effort. For those wanting websites on the church and school, they taught against the internet, so there are no official websites to be found. On May 13, 2013, the church purchased a domain for a website [website is no longer available- see archived version] but as of October 25, 2014, they had not done anything but display an under construction page. By 2016 it was in operation but with very little information. The website is now here and while there are pictures and some blogs, not much other information is on it and the about page leaves out any reference of Edwin Young being a former pastor (as of near the end of 2017 and remains so in 2022). It appears in 2015 they also started a separate site on the Academy, which also has little information. Later it became part of the new website. If you are upset that we have spoken about ministers, consider what this man has to say about public criticism of leaders. You may also wish to listen to what the current pastor, Nathan Dudley, teaches. He states that if you are not doing what is right, then you are not of God.

NOTICE: On February 5, 2021, Edwin Young passed away after a battle with cancer. You won't find much online about his passing. For a very brief mention, go here. We used the archived link as so much related to this story has vanished from the internet through the years.

On July 2, 2022, Darlyene Mardell Westberg passed away.

Police Arrest Picture of Jordan Young March 2012 Jordan Young

Above is the arrest picture of Jordan Young on the left and a March 2012 photo on the right.

On June 25, 2013 it was announced that Jordan Young would be pleading guilty to ten cases and made a deal with the prosecutors that would include extensive jail time. On August 6, Jordan unexpectedly backed out of the plea agreement and requested a new attorney. On November 6, 2013 a plea agreement was made where Young agreed to a sentence of over 24 years in prison. He pleaded no contest to one count of aggravated criminal sodomy and three counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child. All the remaining charges were dismissed with prejudice as part of the plea agreement. On January 13, 2014, he was officially sentenced to 24.5 years. He spoke briefly, apologizing to his victims and acknowledged and thanked his family that was in attendance, telling them he loved them. In the fall of 2014, he filed an appeal and before the end of the year, the Kansas Supreme Court had summarily dismissed it. Since 2017 Jordan, KDOC# 0107301, has been serving his sentence at the Ellsworth Correctional Facility and appears to be working a job. His earliest possible release date is June 10, 2033 according to https://kdocrepository.doc.ks.gov/kasper/search/results. On July 27, 2023, he was tranferred to the Winfield Correctional Facility.

Information On Jordan Charles Young

Jordan Charles Young was raised in Faith Tabernacle Apostolic Church in Junction City, Kansas. He started playing the keyboard for services in Fresno, California. He seemed likeable and was quiet for the most part. Edwin Young preached that every kid was different, that if he said, 'Jordan!' with that parent voice or looked at him that way, Jordan would burst into tears; he was so sensitive. He was more respectful it seemed than many. He was a very talented or gifted musician and had an ear for music, perhaps perfect pitch.

When he came back to Kansas, the youth loved the musical style he brought, and his talent. Though there had always been an interest in music, when he recorded his first album and wrote songs, the youth had found an outlet for their style. They seemed to very much enjoy the long practices. Here was something they could be very good at. Jordan had never had a professional music lesson to our knowledge. He could hear a song and play it. He played a number of instruments and played them well.

For awhile Jordan worked for a local bank. He graduated from the church school, Apostolic Academy, in 2005.

Edwin preached that singles should find someone in their own church to marry, but Jordan married someone from several states away in Virginia, that his father met while he was preaching out. Eventually Dana Davis met Jordan, and they married. He seemed attentive to her. They married in Virginia at her church on July 7, 2007. He even wrote a song especially for her on their wedding day.

After the honeymoon, Dana moved to Junction City, which is the tradition in Faith Tabernacle. They marry in the bride's church, but only one case is known where the bride didn't then move to the groom's city and live with him there. It doesn't matter what kind of jobs are available or if the wife owns a house or if she has a better job than the groom, she moves to his church. It can also cause trouble because they can never get a start on their own if he has family in church as there will always be the parents right there.

About the time he and Dana married, he was offered a position at the church, assisting with the youth music at the school, working more with the church music and sound system, and assisting other ways as needed. There was an undercurrent when that was discovered. There hadn't been an opening from someone who'd left a position, just suddenly there was a new position and Jordan. It most likely paid more than he had been making at the bank. There was someone leading the kids' music at Apostolic Academy already, and she was placed only with the elementary after that, while Jordan worked with the Junior High and High Schoolers' music. Again, there was no mention of why. He also led a youth "band," one of several singing teams at church.

To my knowledge, he didn't have a very solidified job description. He and his wife chaperoned youth events in and out of town, but so did every married couple who volunteered. (Singles weren't allowed to chaperone after a certain time in Faith Tabernacle's history. Apparently there had been issues at some point.)

Jordan and Dana sat two to three pews back from the front behind a row of young men, but on what was commonly known as 'the girls' side' due to their section being on that side of center. The single young women sat together on one side and the single young men on the other. The front of the church had four sections. The girls sat on the speaker's left. The young men sat in the two center section front rows and in the far section on the speaker's right. Couples sat together wherever they chose. Many times Jordan would be at the keyboard, but that's where he was otherwise. He was one of the ones, of course, up on his feet "preaching the preacher."

Jordan and Dana had a child, a girl, about a year after they married. Jordan and Dana lived in an apartment complex owned by one of the horsemen for awhile. It was said that the horseman had "fixed it up nice" for them, which wasn't something done for every tenant. When Edwin moved to the new land, he and his wife got a modular put on the land first, and intended to build. His father's plan supposedly was to build his house and then give Jordan and Dana the modular. Jordan and Dana Young were an anniversary couple of the week at WJCK-AM radio station, I believe in 2011 or 2012. The page is no longer available on the radio station's website.

It appears since Jordan's incarceration, Dana has returned to her home state of Virginia and now goes by her maiden name. Jordan's brother, Jaron Ward Young, may also be living there. (Link no longer available.)

Jordan Young has written songs and appears to have had a production company, JTeam Productions. He has been involved with a number of Apostolic churches and singers/musicians. He co-wrote a song with Apostolic minister P.J. White and produced and arranged the music for P.J. White's CD. In addition, Jordan Young and Jaron Young are listed as musicians and doing background vocals on the CD.

Jordan recorded his first album, I Lift My Hands, and then a second album, When God Performs. He preached a few revivals and sometimes was referred to as 'recording artist' Jordan Young on ads for revivals he was at, either alone or with his dad.

Jango.com Jordan Young Biography- "Currently residing in Kansas he currently serves as Minister of Music at his church. He has always been a lover of music from a baby. He began singing publicly at 2 years old and is not only a singer but a multi-talented musician." 2,729 fans are listed (2755 as of June 13, 2016).

Two Podcasts With Jordan Young Preaching & Singing At Christian Growth Center- Two free podcasts of Jordan are available on iTunes and were made available August 5, 2012. One is dated July 29, 2012 and the other is also believed to be from July. The titles are '7-29-2012' and 'Let The Church Sound Off.' These are from Christian Growth Center (1906 N. Hudson Ave., Pueblo, Colorado) under Pastor Paul Elder. Christian Growth Center is an affiliated United Pentecostal church and Paul M. Elder is licensed through them. The podcasts are of Jordan Young singing and preaching. Jordan is related to the Elders. There is Spanish translation with the Podcast. You will need to scroll through the list to find it. The church has removed these two podcasts since we linked to them. It happened around September 1, 2012.

Jordan Young And Covenant - An Apostolic Quartet

Jordan and his brother, Jaron Young, were most recently part of the singing quartet, Covenant. It is uncertain when this group was formed, but they were together as far back as 2011. The members of this singing group were Pastor C. Myles Young, Jaron Young, Jordan Young and Pastor Phil Endris and they released their first CD in March 2012. (They are not associated with another group named 'Covenant' from Massachusetts, who released a CD in 2006.) They performed together as late as June or July of 2012.

C. Myles Young and The Rock Church in California:

C. Myles Young is the pastor of The Rock Church in Elk Grove, California, where former United Pentecostal Church minister, Nathaniel J. Wilson, is the bishop. Myles Young is also a former UPC minister and has served on the General Council and Global Missions Division of the Worldwide Pentecostal Fellowship and has been the chairman of the Youth Department. One of Wilson's daughters is married to Pastor C. Myles Young. You would have to know some of the things mentioned on the church website had been associated with the UPC as I didn't see them name their past organization. Myles Young has released several other CDs.

The church website previously advertised about Covenant, according to the pagespan website, "With classic Black Gospel influences, new quartet Covenant, will be present at this years No Limits conference. Look for their upcoming CD, and concert at Challenge Week, presented by Apostolic School of Theology September 27 at The Rock Church." It would have been 2011. As this is no longer available, here is a screen shot as of August 23, 2012. Nathaniel Wilson and C. Myles Young are part of the Worldwide Pentecostal Fellowship (WPF), an organization of ministers who state they wish to attain a "preferred" Apostolic future. This organization was formed by United Pentecostal Church ministers, after the UPC approved a resolution in September 2007 to allow ministers to advertise on television. They have a more strict code of standards than the UPC. Wilson has served on the Executive Council of the WPF and as the chairman of their Education Division.

Phil Endris and The Rock Church in Indiana:

Phil Endris is the pastor of another church named The Rock Church, in Gary, Indiana. This is their Facebook page (12/1/17: The page is now here and the church has moved to Hobart, Indiana. The website address is still the same but now listed as under construction.) It used to be called Abundant Life Tabernacle Church and was a United Pentecostal Church at the time of this article, previously founded by Brent A. Endris, who moved to Arizona to pastor and more recently returned to Indiana in 2012. (To hear Brent Endris promise healing, miracles and deliverance during two days of services about the end times in Tempe, Arizona in May 2011, see this YouTube video. It appears this video was removed sometime in 2013. Another video with Brent is found here where he talks about the spirit of leviathan. This video also later disappeared.) Phillip Endris appeared in the 2011 UPC Minister's Directory as holding license, but not in 2010 and prior.

There is something strange in this as the church in Gary was an affiliated UPC church. That means they had a legal affiliation with the organization. One of the rules of affiliated churches is that they must be pastored by a UPC licensed minister. Yet Phil Endris was shown as pastoring but yet not holding license with the UPC during times when the church was yet affiliated. I find this odd.

Another odd event is that the church did later disaffiliate but at least some there were under the impression that the church was no longer UPC. That was not true. The church is listed in the 2012 UPC church directory and has not stopped being listed since Phil Endris took the pastorate. It just no longer has that official legal affiliation. In the 2010 directory, it is listed as affiliated. (Let me try to explain. Any church whopse pastor is licensed through the UPC is automatically a UPC church. There is a separate legal affiliation that a church may voluntarily choose. The organization has some say in these churches and recommends that churches affiliate for the purpose of "identification, fellowship, cooperation, and protection.")

The disaffiliation meeting was held on a Sunday morning (click the links for information on how a church disaffiliates). It has been said that part of the reason Phil gave members for disaffiliation, is that if something happened to him or he fell into sin, the UPC could step in and appoint a new pastor if they remained affiliated. So the church voted to disaffiliate and some wrongly thought this ended the church association with the UPC. There was also talk that Phil stated he did not have a television and yet one has been seen in his home. (For those unaware, the then current UPC rules stated that licensed ministers are not to have television in their home. However, it has been reported that a number of their ministers indeed do have televisions.)

There was rumor that Phil Endris would be leaving the UPC before the end of 2012. He did leave, though I am uncertain of the date, and is now involved in the more strict Worldwide Pentecostal Fellowship, where he gets to be a speaker at some of their events.

It has been said that when Brent Endris moved to Arizona and his brother became the new pastor, some members left to attend the UPC church in Griffith. It has also been said that since April 2011, a number of people have left the church; possibly 80 people, with the most having left since late 2011. It is alleged that on a Sunday in the last few months of 2011, when Jordan Young was there to preach, that Phil Endris said negative comments about a woman who had left the church around a month before and stated things about her that some knew to be untrue. (To read an article that in part covers potential legal liability on the part of pastors who attempt to discipline former church members, please click here.) Another woman had also allegedly been scolded for something related to this. It appears that at some point after this incident, services may have stopped being streamed live over the Internet. It also appears that DVDs of the newer services were no longer made available to members as they had been in the past.

Edwin and Jordan Young came to this church numerous times in the past. Jordan would be asked to preach at the Friday evening youth services when he was in town. There is a video posted here that shows them, and possibly Jaron, at the end of a service there. It is believed to be in early March of 2012, according to a Facebook post made on the church page. Phil Endris has posted (screen shot of post) a picture via Twitter of himself and other members of Covenant from March 2012, relaxing after a performance here. We do have a screen shot as he has removed the picture (approximately on August 30) since we linked to it. On February 15, 2012, he also tweeted a picture of the Covenant CD, stating it was to be released at the "No Limits" conference in Sacramento, California in March. (This also later went missing and our screen shot is found here.) At some point his Twitter account was deleted.

Things Going Missing:

Since this section on Covenant was added, a number of things have gone missing online, some almost immediately and others were days, weeks or a few months later. Other things not related to Covenant have also disappeared or gone private since our linking to them. Once this started within 24 hours of our linking to YouTube videos of their performance at The Rock Church in Elk Grove, California in 2011, we collected screen shots of material we found, in case more disappears or access to it is closed. Those screen shots have been made available as the disappearances continue. It would appear to us that some are attempting to distance themselves from an association with Jordan Young. By including information on the members of Covenant, we certainly are not saying that they had knowledge of, or condoned, the alleged sexual crimes of Jordan Young. One cannot hide the fact that they were friends, visited each others churches, performed concerts together and released a CD of their songs.

Church Rules Change Some:

Edwin Young let down on the long time church standard of no videos when his sons were filmed singing in Covenant and the YouTube videos were online. Church members were then permitted to watch YouTube videos. It appears some other standards were eased as well, prior to his exit, and he said the church would no longer be attending the holiness conferences.

Jordan Young: The Preacher

Above are two videos with partial audio clips of Jordan Young preaching on two different occasions during what is believed to be July 2012.

The Felony Criminal Charges

Edwin Young, pastor of the Faith Tabernacle Apostolic Church in Junction City, Kansas, suddenly and unexpectedly resigned by leaving a letter on the desk of Don Boyer, on what is believed to have been August 2, 2012. His son, Jordan Young, is facing criminal felony charges for alleged sexual acts with six minor boys, from between 2008 until August 1, 2012. The alleged sodomy charge on August 1 is said to have occurred at Faith Tabernacle Apostolic Church.

To me, this is in part a good indication of why Edwin Young resigned when he did, doing so via a letter, and allegedly fleeing town. Assistant County Attorney Michelle Brown said she could not answer my question as to whether Edwin Young is also being investigated, as the investigation is ongoing and the police have not concluded interviewing all the witnesses. The police have consistently not commented on Edwin, but I am fairly certain that he is being investigated. The Junction City Police Department has consulted with the KBI and FBI on the case, as they do with every major investigation. The KBI is involved in testing for DNA evidence on approximately 40 pieces of evidence. A crime scene investigative unit vehicle had been seen on church property in August 2012.

Jordan Charles Young was arrested at 11:30 the morning of August 13, 2012 and made his first court appearance Tuesday, August 14 at the Geary County Courthouse. A status hearing was set for August 21. Before that hearing could take place, Jordan was re-arrested again on August 17 and was charged with additional crimes with a second minor boy. After the August 21 hearing, he had another on August 28, when the proceedings were pushed back to September 6, when another hearing was to be held. On September 6 it was announced that nine more people had come forward and another hearing was scheduled for October 11, 2012, after which another was scheduled for November 15 and then another for January 10, 2013.

While yet being held in prison, Jordan Young was re-arrested again on August 30, 2012. This was for two additional cases. Since then two additional cases have been filed against him and his first appearance in court on those was September 10, 2012. A status hearing was scheduled for September 18, 2012, but that was continued. Charges now revolve around six separate underage male victims.

We cannot help but wonder just how far reaching this situation will be. Jordan Young has been traveling around the country and was also recently outside the country, while performing with the group Covenant. Are his alleged victims only in the Junction City area or will they be found outside of Kansas as well? He had access to many young people in these travels. Hopefully every parent, whose male son spent time with Jordan, has thoroughly checked to make sure nothing was attempted with their child. Was Edwin Young aware of any of this as some have said he was? In my opinion, that appears to be true. If so, he may be facing charges, too, and rightly so. All of this is very sad and has to be heartbreaking and horrendous to the boys and their families, as well as to any family members of Jordan Young who had no idea what was happening. I cannot even attempt to fathom how deep the pain and feelings of betrayal must be to the victims and their families. Please pray for them.

There have been some sick and thoughtless comments online regarding this situation. It appears that some need to be reminded that there are young boys whose lives have been forever changed and they are in pain. It isn't easy for people to come forward in these situations. Everyone may never come forward. It is not a laughing matter and the joking is reprehensible.

Jordan is being held at the Geary County Detention Center with bonds totaling at least $1,000,000 combined for the cases. He is considered a flight risk because he tried to flee the area before his initial arrest. He was ordered to surrender his passports and is not allowed to have contact with any alleged victims or anyone under the age of 21. The police are starting a separate case for each of the minor boys, rather than adding to the charges already on record.

I am not sure I have ever seen this before in a case such as this, but I think it is a very good move on the part of the police with everything that is involved. I really appreciate what Steve Opat, the head of the Geary County Attorney's Office was quoted as saying to Lindsey Rogers of WIBW, "The investigation is ongoing and will be methodical. It may take longer than people would like but the reality of it is, we're not going to be influenced by electronic gratification where everyone wants to know everything about something in a matter of minutes. It's just not going to happen that way in these kinds of cases." Indeed, many want to know what is happening, but we need to keep in mind how potentially far reaching all of this could be and that it involves children. In addition, depending on how deep any investigation into Edwin Young's activities might be, that would be time consuming as we are speaking of many years.

In doing a search for charges in three court systems in Geary County, it was found that on August 20, 2004, Officer Nate Sparks issued a speeding ticket to Jordan Young, for allegedly going 83 in a 60 mile-per-hour zone on US 77 at mile post 155. On August 31, Jordan entered a plea of Nolo Contendere, which is a way of allowing the court to issue a judgment without saying one is guilty. Former Judge Larry E. Bengtson presided, who was later disbarred in late 2006. Attorney V. Linnea Alt represented Jordan.

In doing the same search for Edwin Roland Young, nothing was discovered from Geary County.

Comparing Two Cases- Some Things To Consider:

One thing that is troubling in unhealthy churches, and one which can cause much harm, is when people do not take proper action when something serious occurs. There are reasons this happens, though someone unfamiliar with how spiritual abuse works will not understand. However, it doesn't make right the inaction on the part of anyone who knows of the wrongdoing.

There have been numerous cases in churches of all kinds where there has been inappropriate sexual contact that has either been swept under the rug or the members appear to be paralyzed and no one goes to the proper authorities. Doing either, while some feel that it is best to keep it behind the closed doors of the church, can cause much more harm as time goes on. Too often the acts are repeated and sometimes get worse. Neither the victim, nor the perpetrator, are helped when action is not taken or inappropriate action is taken. And others are put at risk, many times unaware of the situation.

Let's compare this case with another that happened several years ago.

The one from several years ago involved a 40 year old part-time teacher and tutor at the Palace of Praise Academy; David Michael Schedin. In April 2008, David Schedin sexually abused one of his students in the Beaverton High School parking lot. The Academy is a small private school operated by Palace of Praise Church in Aloha, Oregon.

The under-age girl told her parents that day and they immediately went to the police. Before the day was over, Schedin was arrested and was hit with charges of third-degree sodomy and third-degree sex abuse. He was released on bond and admitted he was not innocent.

In August 2008, he plead guilty to one count of second-degree sexual abuse, five counts of third-degree sexual abuse and one count of third-degree sodomy. He received a sentence of three years probation and one year in prison.

While there appears to have been some controversy at the time with some reporting that the pastor defended Schedin, prompting some members to leave the church, proper action was taken by someone and the incident wasn't allowed to be swept under the rug, thus possibly saving other young girls from being sexually abused. Compare this with what happened at Faith Tabernacle.

Both of these cases goes back to at least 2008. Whereas Schedin was immediately reported to the police when an adult was told what happened, Jordan was free to allegedly continue abusing children for years.

It has been said by some that people went to the pastor about it, but he allegedly dismissed them and went on to attack those who came to him. It appears that the police were not notified, though there are some who claim they were. However, it is difficult to believe that actual complaints were filed by more than one person and nothing happened.

Why should a parent or other adult go to the pastor without going to the police? Why would a parent or other adult go to the pastor without going to the police? Is a pastor qualified to take charge of a situation such as this?

If the child was assaulted by a teacher in a public school, would it have been reported it to the police? If a child was assaulted by a neighbor, would it have been reported it to the police? (My thoughts are that these two situations would have been reported.) So why, because it involves someone from church, do people hesitate reporting, or do not report, sexual abuse?

These are serious and important questions.

How many boys would have been kept from being assaulted if someone had bypassed the pastor at Faith Tabernacle and gone directly to the police? How many boys would not have to be affected the rest of their lives if proper action had been taken? If a parent or another adult had immediately gone to the police as the other parents in the Oregon case did, how many would have been spared the pain?

In unhealthy churches, all too often situations like these are not properly handled. People run to the pastor instead of reporting the sexual crimes. The pastors decide they know how to handle it and perhaps they sit the person down for awhile or even send them elsewhere to an unsuspecting church. Or they deny it happened, and turn a blind eye to it. And thus this allows the perpetrator to be free to harm others.

The First Set Of Charges:

Much of the following are little details. With Jordan Young's arrest on August 13, in his first appearance before Judge David Platt on August 14, he was charged with aggravated indecent liberties with a child, attempted criminal sodomy and solicitation of a child according to news reports. A status and preliminary hearing was then scheduled for August 21 by Judge Charles A. Zimmerman. On August 14, an application was made for appointed defense services and on the 15th, a notice of appointment of counsel was mailed to the Public Defenders Office. On August 16, Judge Platt handled a request for discovery and inspection, with a reciprocal discovery agreement. On August 20, Judge Platt handled complaint information. No preliminary hearing was held on August 21 by Judge Zimmerman as it was disposed at the status hearing on the same day and another status hearing was scheduled for August 28. On August 21, Judge Platt handled a waiver of extradition and consent to be returned to Geary County. This was mandatory if he was to be released on bond. On August 22, Judge Platt sent the Public Defenders Office an email with a PDF file of an application for appointed defense services financial affidavit. On August 22, Judge Platt received notice that Thomas G. Lemon was to be Jordan Young's new attorney. He had filed this on August 21. On August 23, Judge Platt received another request for discovery and inspection with reciprocal discovery agreement, I assume from the new attorney. On August 28, the proceedings were pushed back to September 6, when a hearing was to be held to address both cases. This was pushed forward to October 11 and another was scheduled for November 15 and yet another for January 10, 2013, and so on.

To see the screen shots containing this list of actions, click here, here, and here.

With now having the court documents, we will attempt to share the little detail in regard to the first set of charges.

On August 14, 2012, three felony criminal charges were filed in court against Jordan Charles Young, all involving a male child born in 1995. From an online court source, all three charges appear to have taken place at 2412 Rucker Road in Junction City, Kansas. That is the address for Riddle Hall, which is one of the buildings owned by Faith Tabernacle Church. It is next to their school, Apostolic Academy. With most of the charges that have been filed, there appears to be a pattern with the date of August 1 of varying years.

The first charge has a violation date of on or about and between August 1, 2008, and June 1, 2009. The alleged felony was aggravated indecent solicitation of a child who is under 14 years of age. It is an attempt to get the child to commit or submit to an unlawful sexual act.

The second charge has a violation date of on or about and between August 1, 2010 and July 1, 2011. The alleged felony was indecent liberties with a child who is 14 or more years of age but less than 16 years of age; specifically lewd fondling of the defendant.

The third charge has a violation date of on or about and between August 1, 2010 and June 1, 2011. The alleged felony was attempted criminal sodomy with a child who is 14 or more years of age but less than 16 years of age. It is said that Jordan attempted to engage in anal copulation with this boy.

On August 20, Jordan Young voluntarily signed a waiver of extradition and consent to be returned to Geary County, Kansas. In the journal of his first appearance, there were several stipulations noted for his possible release. He was to maintain communication with his defense council, was to have no contact with anyone under 21 years of age, he was to report to CSO as directed, he was to pay the $100.00 BIDS fee within 30 days of release, he was to have no contact with the victim or any of the witnesses listed in the complaint, and he was to surrender all passports and sign a waiver of extradition.

The reason for the waiver would be if Jordan had been released on bond and left the area, in violation of his bond. Were he to flee out of state or violate conditions of his bond, the waiver allowed the authorities of the State of Kansas to "come as soon as possible and take me to that state without the extradition process."

The Second Set Of Charges:

I won't go into all the little details on the second set of charges as I did with the first. The screen shots will walk you through them. With Jordan Young's arrest on August 17, in his first appearance before Judge Steven L. Hornbaker on August 20, he was charged with criminal sodomy, aggravated indecent liberties with a child, and aggravated indecent solicitation of a child. He was appointed a public defender and an order of detention was issued. A status and preliminary hearing was then scheduled for August 28 by Judge Charles A. Zimmerman. On August 28, the proceedings were pushed back to September 6, when a hearing was to be held to address both cases. This was pushed forward to October 11 and so on. On August 22, Judge Hornbaker received notice that Thomas G. Lemon was to be Jordan Young's new attorney. On August 23, Judge Hornbaker received a request for discovery and inspection with reciprocal discovery agreement.

To see the screen shots containing this list of actions, click here, here and here.

With now having the court documents, we will attempt to share the little detail in regard to the second set of charges.

On August 20, 2012, four felony criminal charges were filed in court against Jordan Charles Young, all involving a male child born in 1997. From an online court source, all four charges appear to have taken place at Faith Tabernacle Apostolic Church in Junction City, Kansas.

The first charge has a violation date of on or about August 1, 2012. This would have been soon after Jordan returned from preaching at a UPC church of a family member in Pueblo, Colorado. The alleged felony was criminal sodomy with a child who is 14 or more years of age but less than 16 years of age. It is said that Jordan caused this boy to engage in anal copulation with another person.

The second charge has a violation date of on or about and between June 1, 2012 and June 30, 2012. The alleged felony was listed as the same cited in the first charge, except it was oral copulation. It is said that Jordan caused this boy to engage in oral copulation with another person.

I wish to stop here and point out something about the above two charges. Did you catch where they said with another person? When I first read the report, that part slipped past me and didn't register. It is written differently than the charges that show things happened between the defendant and the child.

The third charge has a violation date of on or about and between August 1, 2009 and June 1, 2010. The alleged felony was aggravated indecent liberties with a child who is under 14 years of age and the offender is 18 years of age or older; specifically lewd fondling of either the defendant or the boy or both.

The fourth charge has a violation date of on or about and between August 1, 2009 and June 1, 2010. The alleged felony was aggravated indecent solicitation of a child who is under 14 years of age. It is an attempt to get the child to commit or submit to an unlawful sexual act.

Starting with this second case, in the journal entries of first appearances, the judges started to emphasize that Jordan was to have no contact with his father. Though Edwin Young was listed as a witness in each case and he was to have no contact with a witness, he was specifically mentioned in the documents from this point forward as an added emphasis. It was also changed that he was to have no contact with anyone under the age of 18. In the first case it had stated 21.

The Third Set Of Charges:

With Jordan Young's arrest on August 30, in his first appearance before Judge Steven L. Hornbaker on August 31, he was charged with aggravated criminal sodomy and aggravated indecent liberties with a child. A status and preliminary hearing was then scheduled for September 6 by Judge Charles A. Zimmerman. This was pushed forward to October 11 and then November 15 and so on.

With now having the court documents, we will attempt to share the little detail in regard to the third set of charges.

On August 31, 2012, five felony criminal charges were filed in court against Jordan Charles Young, all involving a male child born in 1998. From an online court source, at least some charges appear to have taken place at 2512 Rucker Road, which is the location of the church operated school, Apostolic Academy, in Junction City, Kansas.

The first charge has a violation date of on or about and between March 1, 2012 and April 30, 2012. The alleged felony was aggravated indecent liberties with a child who is under 14 years of age and the offender is 18 years of age or older; specifically lewd fondling of either the defendant or the boy or both.

The second charge has a violation date of on or about and between March 1, 2012 and April 30, 2012. The alleged felony was aggravated criminal sodomy with a child who is under 14 years of age and the offender is 18 years of age or older. It is said that Jordan engaged in oral copulation with this boy.

The third charge has a violation date of on or about and between April 1, 2012 and May 31, 2012. The alleged felony was aggravated indecent liberties with a child who is under 14 years of age and the offender is 18 years of age or older; specifically lewd fondling of either the defendant or the boy or both.

The fourth charge has a violation date of on or about and between April 1, 2012 and May 31, 2012. The alleged felony was aggravated criminal sodomy with a child who is under 14 years of age and the offender is 18 years of age or older. It is said that Jordan engaged in oral copulation with this boy.

The fifth charge has a violation date of on or about June 17, 2012. The alleged felony was aggravated criminal sodomy with a child who is under 14 years of age and the offender is 18 years of age or older. It is said that Jordan engaged in oral copulation with this boy.

The Fourth Set Of Charges:

With Jordan Young's arrest on August 30, in his first appearance before Judge Maritza Segarra on September 4, he was charged with aggravated indecent solicitation of a child and aggravated intimidation of a witness or victim. A status and preliminary hearing was then scheduled for September 6 by Judge Charles A. Zimmerman. This was pushed forward to October 11 and then November 15 and so on. On September 5, an application for appointed defense services was made, though it still lists Lemon as Jordan's attorney.

With now having the court documents, we will attempt to share the little detail in regard to the fourth set of charges.

On September 4, 2012, two felony criminal charges were filed in court against Jordan Charles Young, all involving a male child born in 1994. All two charges appear to have taken place at a non-disclosed location. In the screen shot you will see the location listed as 210 East 9th Street, however that is the address of the Junction City Police. Since on the other three charges the actual locations were listed, we assume this may be a private residence and thus a need for non-disclosure. Less information has been seen in the online court source since we have been reporting on the case, so the location may have been anywhere.

The first charge has a violation date of on or about and between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2011. The alleged felony was aggravated indecent solicitation of a child under 14 years of age. It is an attempt to get the child to enter a room with the intent to commit an unlawful sexual act upon or with the child.

The second charge has a violation date of on or about and between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2011. The alleged felony was aggravated intimidation of a witness or victim. It is intimidation of a witness or victim in preventing or dissuading, or attempting to prevent or dissuade, with an intent to vex, annoy, harm or injure in any way another person or an intent to thwart or interfere in any manner with the orderly administration of justice: any witness, victim or person acting on behalf of a victim from: Making any report of the victimization of a victim to any law enforcement officer, prosecutor, probation officer, parole officer, correctional officer, community correctional services officer or judicial officer. Aggravated intimidation of a witness or victim is intimidation of a witness or victim, as defined in subsection (a), when the: act is in furtherance of a conspiracy.

To see the screen shots containing the fourth set of charges and actions, click here, here, here and here.

The Fifth Set Of Charges:

Little is yet known on the fifth set of charges. In his first appearance before Judge Steven L. Hornbaker on September 10, he was charged with indecent liberties with a child. A status and preliminary hearing was then scheduled for September 18 by Judge Charles A. Zimmerman, but this was not held and it was continued. On September 11, an application for appointed defense services was made, though it still lists Lemon as Jordan's attorney. On the 19th there was a request for discovery and inspection with reciprocal discovery agreement.

Without having the full court documents, we will attempt to share the little detail in regard to the fourth set of charges.

On September 10, 2012, one felony criminal charge was filed in court against Jordan Charles Young. No location was listed.

The charge has a violation date that would be incorrect as Jordan is in prison. They are showing less and sometimes incorrect information online on new cases. The complaint has not yet been filed with the court. We are unsure if this involves a span of dates. The alleged felony was indecent liberties with a child who is 14 or more years of age but less than 16 years of age; specifically lewd fondling.

To see the screen shots containing the fifth set of charges and actions, click here, here and here.

The Sixth Set Of Charges:

Little is yet known on the sixth set of charges. In his first appearance before Judge David Platt on September 10, he was charged with indecent liberties with a child.

Four More Cases:

On October 11, 2012, Jordan Young appeared with his attorney for his scheduled hearing. It was announced by Thomas Lemon that he had just received four additional cases from the prosecuting attorney before court and that it was his understanding that those completed the charges that would be filed. Ms. Brown's response could not be heard. This could mean that three parties are not going forward with their cases as thirteen boys had originally given reports. However, Lindsey Rogers from WIBW states that Michelle Brown shared that four to seven more cases could be filed. The four cases Jordan's attorney received today have not yet been officially filed. As of March 2013, they still have yet to be filed.

On November 15, preliminary hearings were scheduled for January 23 and 24, 2013 for these four cases.

When Jordan arrived in chains around his waist and handcuffed shortly before court started at 9:00, he smiled almost the entire time and looked people in the eyes. He did not seem to look as good as he had in his arrest picture. One woman left the room angry after seeing him smiling.

There appeared to be a few Faith Tabernacle members present at one time or another. Brenda Young entered the courtroom about 8:42 and it appeared two women later joined her and they could have been family members. After Jordan left the room, the three went outside the courtroom to speak with Thomas Lemon.

It appears Jordan has lost weight. He was bouncing in place almost the entire time he was in the courtroom. He did look at his mother and smiled at her at least once. This must be extremely difficult for Brenda Young with all that has happened. The time he was before the judge lasted maybe three minutes, starting at about 9:06.

Michelle Brown shared that they are still awaiting the report from the KBI. She has also confirmed, though it had been seen in the online court notations, that the alleged charges did occur at the church and Apostolic Academy and in other places.

Absent from the courtroom was any minister from Faith Tabernacle, including Nathan Dudley. According to one source that has been there for every hearing, he has never been seen there.

It is unknown how Jordan's attorney is being paid as he does not have the funds to afford an attorney and had originally been appointed one from the Public Defender's Office. It must have already cost thousands of dollars. Many people have guessed that Edwin Young may be footing the bill.

As of March 2013, they were still waiting on the results from the DNA testing being performed by the KBI.

Jordan Young Prison Info 2014

Potential Witnesses:

There are a number of potential witnesses that may be called by the prosecuting attorney. This is not a complete list and the names of minors will not be listed by this site. It is also important to understand that being named as a witness does not mean the person saw the alleged crimes.

From the Junction City Police Department and other law enforcement agencies are Detective Cory O'Dell, Patricia Giordano, John Berrios, Joshua Brown, Detective Mark Roberts, KBI Chemists, and KBI Biologists (DNA).

In addition, Don Boyer and Edwin Young from Faith Tabernacle are on the witness lists. This means that Jordan Young is not permitted to have any contact with his father (this is emphasized in the court documents), anyone else on the witness list, and any of the victims. I believe that knowing Edwin Young is listed should answer the question as to whether or not he is being investigated. How deep the investigation goes and whether there is an investigation regarding his alleged sexual misconduct or alleged theft of church funds is unknown.

A puzzling and sad aspect of these cases is that some of them were reported to the police by a church official, possibly before Nathan Dudley became pastor, and not the parents of the victims.

Court Documents:

With the exception of sealed affidavits, the court documents in these cases are public record. Below you will find some of the records we obtained and have made into PDFs. Please note that we have removed the initials of each child from the complaints and have not included the witness list on each one as minors are involved.

First Set Of Charges: 2012-CR-000551 - Three counts of charges.

Second Set Of Charges: 2012-CR-000564 - Four counts of charges.

Third Set Of Charges: 2012-CR-000592 - Five counts of charges.

Fourth Set Of Charges: 2012-CR-000607 - Two counts of charges.

Thomas Lemon Entry Of Appearance - Lemon announces he is now representing Jordan Young.

Extradition Waiver - Jordan waives his right of extradition (a requirement were he to be released on bond).

Journal Entry Of First Appearance On Second Set Of Charges - This is included as an example of what is filed on each case. It shows, in part, what Jordan must do if he is released on bond and mentions the people with which he can have no contact. The initials of the victim have been removed. It was with this second case that the court also started specifically mentioning that Jordan could have no contact with Edwin Young, even though he is mentioned on each case as a witness and that automatically bars him from contact.

Miscellaneous:

In all the sets of charges, confidential affidavits have been filed. They are confidential due to the ages of the children.

So far in all the hearings for the first six cases, Jordan Young has appeared pro se according to court documents.

To help you better understand some of the court abbreviations, there is a PDF file found here.

Jordan 2012

Riddle Hall

We want to share a little about one of the church buildings, since it is alleged that some of the crimes were committed there.

When the Apostolic Academy, the private school for the children of church members, was being built, the classroom building was completed first. There is no playground equipment outside. At the time, Edwin Young was bragging about how Apostolic Academy and Riddle Hall were the first of many buildings to be constructed. They are steel structures that are finished on the inside, which was more cost effective than stick, frame and mortar buildings that used to be more common. We think both buildings are about the same size, and in keeping with Edwin Young's extravagance, Riddle Hall, at least, was large enough to hold two full sized basketball courts. When fellowships were held there, it was pretty well filled.

The two buildings are about seven car lengths apart. There is a full commercial kitchen in Riddle Hall, and that's where the children would eat and where they would play sometimes. The guys would also play basketball and the girls (and guys) would play volleyball sometimes. As you walk into Riddle Hall, there is a balcony overhead and large bathrooms on either side of the hallway. The kitchen is on the right. There are wide stairs up to the balcony. The balcony houses three to four rooms (including a school home economics room) on the right, above the kitchen and a janitor's closet. On the left are one to two additional rooms. One of these became known as the music room some years back. It was above the bathroom for the girls.

The kids practiced music with Jordan. Unless someone was in the hall or in the next room, nothing could have been heard in the music room; the building was too large and that room was too isolated. Too, Jordan wanted it set up to record, and if so he would have had it sound proofed. We are not saying that this room in Riddle Hall is where some of the alleged crimes were committed, but that it would have been a place where they could easily have occurred undetected by others.

Riddle Hall wasn't used all the time. And the music room was Jordan's room. It was kept locked, we believe, "due to the equipment in it." And they really did have some expensive equipment. The girls' bathroom being under the music room adds something. Generally, unless a whole class of girls were there or there were women working in the kitchen, there would have been no girls or women in the bathroom or anywhere else in the building. The boys, upstairs practicing music, could not have been heard even without soundproofing.

The most used spaces, the gym, the kitchen, and the home economics room, were quite a distance from the music room, considering the size of the building. Both the kitchen and home economics room would have been the length of a full basketball court away, and the most used side of the gym was the width of a court away.

Below is a very rough drawing of Riddle Hall that does not show exact sizes or locations. The purpose is to give a general idea of the layout.

Riddle Hall Layout

2016 Update: There is now a website for the Academy, though it has very little information. It appears it started sometime in 2015. In 2017, tuition is being increased from $1,250 per year to $1,500 for the first three children per family. Sheila Allbritton is no longer the principal. Her son, Nicholas Allbritton is running for District 17's Kansas Senate seat. The principal now is David E. Wild. (12/1/17: Michael Murrell was the principal. See here. By at least late 2020, Michael Witmer became the principal.) In mid 2014 Wild retired from federal service after having last served as the director of contracting at Fort Riley. The article mentions that Mr. Wild "plans to serve as a principal for a small private school" so he may have taken the position as early as 2014. Take note of the about page on the website as it appears it may be encouraging parents to tell their children to just "take the wrong" if their "child comes home with a complaint of some injustice." In light of the fact that young boys were sexually assaulted for years, this is especially bothersome if this is what is meant by the statement.

As of April 6, 2016, Jordan Young is now incarcerated in Neosho County, after having been in Lansing CF-Central.

The Court Players

Michelle L. Brown, one of three full-time prosecutors in the Geary County's Attorney's Office, is the prosecutor in the case. She is an Assistant County Attorney. Felony charge cases are handled by the Geary County's Attorney's Office. Some may find their list of frequently asked questions helpful.

Steven L. Opat is the head of the Geary County Attorney's Office.

There are four judges involved in the charges against Jordan Young.

The Honorable David R. Platt is the judge for the first and sixth set of charges. He has been a District Court Judge since 1993 and was appointed by Governor Joan Finney.

The Honorable Charles A. Zimmerman is another judge for all of the charges. He has been a District Magistrate Judge since 2007.

The Honorable Steven L. Hornbaker is the judge for the second, third and fifth set of charges. He has been a District Court Judge since 2000 and was appointed by Governor Bill Graves.

The Honorable Maritza Segarra is the judge for the fourth set of charges. She has been a District Court Judge since 2007 and was appointed by Governor Kathleen Sebelius. Prior to then she was a District Magistrate Judge from 2004 to 2007.

The Daily Union had reported that Cole Hawver, of the Public Defenders Office, was appointed Jordan's lawyer. Hawver graduated from the University of Kansas in 2007, and as such would be a more recently licensed attorney. He is no longer involved in the case. According to Assistant County Attorney Michelle Brown, "when Mr. Lemon entered his appearance as attorney for Mr. Young, Mr. Hawver was allowed to withdraw as counsel."

Thomas G. Lemon, of Cavanaugh & Lemon, P. A. in Topeka, is now Jordan Young's attorney. He graduated from Washburn University and has been an attorney since 1993. He is also a former Assistant District Attorney in Shawnee County.

Tim Brown is the Junction City Police Chief.

Perhaps hearing the experience of Linda Murphrey, daughter of former Baptist pastor Jack Hyles, who lived a different life than what church members perceived, will help some close to this situation. Hyles was First Baptist's founder, where in 2012, pastor Jack Schaap was removed for having sex with an underage female.

Spiritual Abuse

We realize many reading have been hurt in a church by spiritual abuse. The book I have recommended the most on the subject is "The Subtle Power Of Spiritual Abuse" by David Johnson and Jeff VanVonderen. Broken into three parts, the authors cover abuse and its victims, leaders and why they are trapped, and recovery from abuse. It is one of the first books I read on the subject after leaving an unhealthy church. If you only want to read one book on the subject from a Christian perspective, read this one. You may order it through Amazon.com here.

You are also encouraged to take the time to explore this site. There is a great deal of information available on spiritual abuse in general plus other resources and also on Apostolic churches. There is help available to the hurting. You are not alone and there is hope. We also offer an online support group that you may read about here.

I can't believe they had wigs and fake mustaches and pumpkin carving this year. To my memory, those would NEVER have been allowed when I was there. They also have a salon and I never saw it involve hair cuts for the guys before.

The ponies/donkeys and horses belong to two families in the church. The wigs and such are for silly pictures done by a couple in the church who own a photography studio.]

Media Coverage:

Lindsey Rogers had been the main investigative reporter on this situation until she moved to Tennessee around September 2013. She now reports in Alabama. Monty Thompson is the WIBW reporter who took her place and though he said he would continue coverage, it appears that he and WIBW dropped the ball, only posting two very brief articles and apparently did not attend any further court dates after Lindsey's last article in August 2013. Thankfully Tim Weideman of the Daily Union, faithfully pursued the case until sentencing. Dewey Terrill of the Junction City Post continued coverage past then to Jordan's 2014 appeal.

Podcasts:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/cgcpueblo/id261511856 Podcast of Edwin Young- One free podcast of Edwin Young preaching is available on iTunes and was uploaded May 3, 2012. It is entitled, "Jump In." About 45 minutes long. You will need to scroll through the list to find it. It is interesting to note he has to bring up effeminate men near the beginning. Also note that around 37:25 he speaks of shaking off spirits such as cigarettes, dope, a lustful eye, fornicating spirit and pervert spirit. This is from a camp meeting. [This is no longer available. However, excerpts from this and other sermons may be found here.]

Podcast of Nathan Dudley- If you would like an idea of the preaching style of the new pastor and how things may be at Faith Tabernacle Church under his pastorate, one free podcast of Nathan Dudley preaching is available on iTunes and was uploaded May 3, 2012. It is entitled, "Apostolic Attitude." You will need to scroll through the list to find it. [Though this one is no longer available, another was added on March 12, 2014 titled "Proven Sincerity". That one also appears to no longer be available.]

http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/cgcpueblo/id261511856 Two Podcasts With Jordan Young Preaching & Singing At Christian Growth Center- Two free podcasts of Jordan are available on iTunes and were made available August 5, 2012. One is dated July 29, 2012 and the other is also believed to be from July. The titles are "7-29-2012" and "Let The Church Sound Off." [They removed the two sermons of Jordan Young around September 1, 2012, after we linked to them. Screen shots of the listings, that were also listed on their website, are found here and here. Excerpts from this and other sermons may be found here.]

Experiences of Former Faith Tabernacle Members:

Former members are free to submit their experiences for consideration to be added to our experience page. You may remain anonymous and will be able to view it, make any desired changes and approve it before it goes live. Even current members have a place to share should they desire to do so.

A Former Faith Tabernacle UPC Woman Shares- "I watched as people in the church, even members of my own family, were tormented for their mistakes. Ridiculed, preached against, and called in after church for a "one-on-one meeting" with the preacher. People kicked out of the church for making mistakes. I watched as members turned on other members, gossip, spying for the preacher, telling on other members. I really began to listen to the sermons. How mean they had become. Where was the love, the compassion? Why did it seem he was always angry preaching? Screaming and hollering, pointing out the flaws of the people and making everyone so fearful."

Elizabeth Smith: Former Faith Tabernacle UPC Woman- "Sis. Westberg asked for all the members to say something about her husband. So I testified that I was moving, but I would still keep the standards and take them with me. I got called in the office and surrounded by all the ministers, me and my ex-husband, and they questioned me about having a slit skirt, and a perm. I was devastated again. I vowed to never return. This time my ex-husband left with me."

Mary's UPC & Apostolic Experiences: Part Two- "Others were kicked out. They were publicly rebuked or labeled from the pulpit. Over time there was less and less affirmation and more and more rebuke for infractions-a skirt was too tight, a sleeve was too short-but not for real wrongs. We heard the same sermon over and over. It was that our church was great, our pastor was the greatest, he was the man of God and we'd better obey him, one day our church would take over the city, God would bless if we had enough faith."
