Food For Thought Videos On Church Teachings

Forward

This is a series of videos to challenge people to search the scriptures, to see if what they were taught is actually in the Bible. Many of us heard things said over and over, so much so that we started believing the Bible verses were there. Sometimes we neglected to check. Other times we read things into a verse or pieced together passages to make a doctrine. If one takes away all the assumptions and reading into the scriptures, what remains?

These videos challenge you to objectively look into what you may have been taught. The focus is on Apostolic and Pentecostal teachings.

When I Went To Look... It Wasn't There!

These short videos address things some of us heard in church, but when we went to find the teaching in the Bible, we were unable to find it.

The first is about the teaching that the blood of Jesus is applied to us during water baptism. It does not question the validity of water baptism, but just addresses the thought of blood application. The second is concerning what Acts 2:38 actually says. This is not about what it means, but whether or not you may have added some wording to the text.

The first is about the phrase, "with the evidence of speaking in tongues." It is not a debate about the matter. Can you find a scripture in the Bible that has this phrase or something similar? The second is about the 3,000 believers on the day of Pentecost. Does the Bible say that they spoke in tongues?

Something To Think About

This set of videos takes a closer look at some things we have been taught and may not have fully studied for ourselves, or perhaps we did but only saw the passages through the eyes of our church or organization when we did look into them.

The first is about Acts 8 and the Samaritans. Many use this to support the teaching that everyone will speak in tongues when they are baptized with the Holy Spirit. But does this chapter say anything about speaking in tongues? The second is about how many times speaking in tongues is mentioned in the book of Acts and how many believers are said to have spoken in tongues. Do you know the answers?

These challenge you to look at Acts 19 more closely. Just why had the men in Ephesus not received the Holy Spirit? Why did Paul water baptize them? You may be surprised....

Helpful Books

These cover some books that you may find helpful in your recovery and they include excerpts. I intended to make more of these but they didn't generate much interest.
