2 Thessalonians 3:5 - Infinity

2 Thessalonians 3:5 "May the Lord lead you into a greater understanding of God's love and the endurance that is given by Christ." (TEV)

The concept of infinity has always intrigued me. Even when I was younger I was fascinated by it.

I've shared before in these devotionals my interest in space.............space to me back then as a child meant "infinite".............I couldn't imagine there being a place where the great spatial universe would end......even though science says there was such a place.

I'd spend a great deal of time looking up things in the encyclopedia.........measurements in miles indicating how far light could go traveling at 186,000 miles per second..........I'd read everything I could about anything new learned about space. As each new discovery was reported on, I continued to increase my knowledge.

Recently I remember reading that the current telescopes, both those based on earth and the Hubble telescope which is in orbit around the planet, can see almost back to when the universe began............somewhere, they say, between 12-14 billion years ago.

There are plans already being made to launch a new telescope (actually a series of telescopes electronically linked together to form an array), which acts as one huge telescope. Scientists hope with this one, they will see back to the beginning of our universe. But even then, they will be limited in how far back in time they can "see" with this powerful array of instruments.

With each new advancement, however, we human beings are brought closer to our understanding of it all...........but an all-encompassing definition of our universe will always be just beyond the next scientific horizon.

And if I have trouble "getting my arms around" all this, how much more beyond my capabilities is an understanding of all the Lord knows.

But the Lord understands my limits, not only because He created me, but also because He robed Himself in flesh and lived among mankind.... then He put all I need to know about Him in one book, the Bible.

And each day when I read about Him in His Word, I move ever closer to knowing what He wants me to know about Him so that I will moving toward what Paul is speaking of above.............."a greater understanding of God's love and the endurance that is given by Christ".

But I feel that will all pale when I'm brought into the Presence of Jesus in all His Glory after I go to be with Him.

Love in Jesus,

Jim
